Nebraska Law is 15 inches from where the bars bolt on.

so say your Larry Bird and wanna go out for a ride on your Harley...do you get pulled over for running a handlebar that allows you to sit comfortably on the bike or do you follow the law and lean over like your on a crotch rocket....HMMMM....I wonder if Mellencamp runs into problems on the Exile he rides?

Thanks for the info. I do not plan to pull them back. I just hope i don't get pulled over for bars. I have seen plenty of riders in the area with apes much higher than mine.

Last word I got from Abate of Indiana is that theres a bill that's had a second reading (meaning it has a good chance of passing) that changes the handlebar height to 6" above the shoulders.

This sounds like a good reason to leave the coldest state I've ever visited. I was snowed in for 2 weeks back in the 70s. Gary is the coldest place on earth. That's the way I remember it.

i was once told by a police officer that they measure from the highest spot on the seat to the highest spot on the handlebars while the operator is sitting on the bike

this was just after he'd pulled me over on my bone stock low rider with the flat bars and about 3 inch risers , saying he thought my bars looked more than the 15" limit . i asked him if he had a tape measure , he asked if i wanted to go to the station to measure the bars

i said no , i was just wondering if he was right and if we could check it , he told me to move along

You're right. Drag bars on short risers are barely legal. I've had my 18's for a few years, no problem. I went for my inspection at the end of the year and got hassled about it. It's just a reason for them to pull you over if they fell like it.

That law has been in effect for many many years. Nothing new.
