smooth backing plate. the outer part of the air cleaner is a filter element as well. Most round a/c filters have a solid plate on the outer part. flows about 40% more air than a ness or se one. I switched from a SE one to this and had to richen up the mixture a bit so it does flow more air.

Vance & Hines Drak intake w Big Bore Radius 2/1 and fuel pak. All were easy to install and power increase was very noticeable.
