Default 07 and Up Dyna Axle Size?

What is the axle diameter of the latest generation Dynas and will any other model wheels interchange? like a road glide wheel set.

06-07 Dyna axles (front and rear) - 1"

08 and later (front and rear) - 25mm

I don't know about wheel interchangeability, but am sure others will chime in.

Wheels from other models are a problem. I put a new Fat Boy with a 200mm on back. New spacers were made and the caliper had to be trimmed along with strut widening. My stock pulley was a perfect fit for clearance. One inch bearings were installed. I think you're kindof on your own when you try wheel swappin' from family to family. On the front you may have the same type problems. The disk has to center with the caliper and such.

Thanks guys, is there a difference between the 1 inch (25.4mm) and the 25 mm? that is a difference of 16 thousandths of and inch (.016), or are they just giving it a metric designation in 08. Sounds like wheel exchanges between families is a can of worms.

As a difference in dimension it is not much, you are quite right, but it is real and the bearings and axles are different. On the touring bikes 1" stuff was introduced around 2002, so if any of the rear wheels take your fancy you can probably install one. There are 3/4", 1" or 25mm bearing kits, which I believe are interchangeable, so swapping wheels around is possible. Someone out there is probably walking around with all this stuff in his head - we could do with him calling by!

That's really good info grbrown, that's a real showstopper when your trying to pound your 1 inch axle into the 25mm bearing late at night for a ride the next day. Thank you.

No thanks. I already tried pounding a 1 in. axle into a 25mm bearing. I got the '08 Fat Boy wheels off eBay. So there I was with hammer in hand trying figure out what was going on. I plead ignorance. I still rode a Shovel. I talked to a few friends and that didn't know what the problem was either. I then got on the net and found out.

other issues will determine compatibility

I'm trying to put 2014 street bob wheels on my 2006 Street Bob. According to this post I can change the bearings on the new 2014 wheels with bearings for a 2006 wheel and still use my 1" axle instead of the new 25mm axle?

Let me know,

Thanks.
