I've left mine alone, so far no problems!

I had a leak with the original installation, a few months ago I installed the same forward controls than you, P/N 49080-06A, I also bought a cap for hiden the extremity of the shifter shaft and put a lot of RTV inside, no more external leaks and amazing no internal leaks. I will fix definitively this problem when I will have to change my transmission belt

I put forwards on my 07 FXDC earlier this year, opting to leave the original in situ until the winter but now I see a few comments of oil leaking from the hole that is left in the side cover.

Should I do it or leave the shaft alone?

Opinions welcomed please
In one month, it will be 3 years and 10,000 miles since I added forward controls to my '09 FXDC. My shaft is still in there in the same place I left it 3 years ago. I really see no reason to remove it. If, for nothing else, if I ever sell or trade it and the new owner wants mid-controls, I've got everything to put them back on.
