One more thing, that other shift-rod that you guys are using in place of the one in the kit. Is that a HD part or after market? If it's HD, what is the part #? Will it fit on an '09 Super Glide Custom?

Thanks guys...getting close to taking this on...(I research the hell out of stuff...lol)
Yeah, that's a little cap they put on there. Mine started leaking after about 15,000 miles. Had to remove outer primary cover and replace what's called a "tower" gasket where the inner and outer primary meet at the linkage hole. Pain in the ***, but not too difficult. I put a bead of RTV black around the tower gasket to make sure. No problems so far.

I did it on my '09 FXDC and used this from WS6 earlier post.....
"I installed the 2005 and earlier kit (P/N 49080-03A) with a longer 2006 custom polished stainless steel shift rod (P/N 33815-06) that comes with the stronger heim joints (they won't break like the original joints)."

The guy at the parts counter at the dealership will tell you that they will not. And It would not with the shifter shaft that comes with it. It is too shoort and the foot lever would hit the front of the larger primary on the 96" engines. But, this shifter is longer and it works just find. And as WS6 said, it's longer length looks more parallel to the ground and looks better. It is pricey, though.
I did not plug the hole - I just slid the mid-shifter shaft back flush with the outer primary cover. I tucked it behind the bolt and it has been like that for about 3500 miles with no problems.
If you look close, you can see my old shifter rod in the photo from the other side.

I still don't understand why the FXDC doesn't have forwards on it as standard equipment...

Question Shaft removal....or not?

What are the latest opinions on cutting the original shaft?

I put forwards on my 07 FXDC earlier this year, opting to leave the original in situ until the winter but now I see a few comments of oil leaking from the hole that is left in the side cover.

Should I do it or leave the shaft alone?

Opinions welcomed please
