Default new brake lever = very touchy brake?

just put some new chrome levers on the fatbob and was checking them out in the shop... just kinda rollin the bike back and forth, and now the front brake lever seems really, really touchy... almost NO lever travel at all, it seems like the barest little squeeze gives a hard grab... and cant really go out and ride cause its wet and nasty outside, so i cant be real sure what its like on the road... from what i could find in the manual, there doesn't seem to be any kind of adjustment i could make... is this just something i gotta get used to or am i missing something?...

I'd wait till I got out for a ride before I'd start tearing into it.

huh something does not seem right on that? it should be the same as a stock lever, is there something that may have fallen between the lever and the plunger?

Just a lever change? Didn't mess with the resevoir at all?

I wonder if the new lever has the pivot point in a slightly different location or the tab that pushes on the piston is bigger.

I'd try bleeding the brake and see if it softens up a little.

alright am back... everything seemed ok, took off lever twice to check... there is a small difference in that the bump that contacts the plunger seems a little larger on the new lever... am not too concerned just yet cause i havent taken it out the road yet... but still, seems awful touchy, would hate to wreck from grabbin too much brake... the only other thing i can think of... would messin with it and workin the brake lever pump them up so they seem really tight and touchy?...

Could it be you bought the wrong p/n? I noticed some time ago p/n for chrome loevers have changed....

I would like to know what model/year your bike is and what p/n you mounted so I can check for you if you have mounted the correct p/n.

Mudd,

I don't have product info on Phat parts.

This is the HD chrome lever I have installed on my FXD2003.

I have the instructions sheet for the chrome hand control lever kit p/n 45075-08 in my database (use the link in my signature)

If you want to be shure if there is any difference between the Phat lever and the OEM lever: take it off again and do a phisycal comparison on the lenght of the part that hits the plunger (see image). If its longer on the Phat lever, you could take off a bit using a file.
