Default miles on used bikes

So I'm in the market (still)....Been looking at lots of bikes and was wondering what everyone thought about mileage? As in an 07 w/ 15k miles vs one with more or less. What is considered 'high', are there any special items to watch out for at certain mileage?

I'm not sure what you are looking for but a three year old bike w/only 15k miles is in my world has barely been ridden. Good luck.

As one that searched for used Bikes to me as long as the miles were low say under 20k I wanted to see service records.

what was done and where. you could tell a Bike that was well cared vs one that was not.

I lucked up and found a 2002 Dyna Wide Glide with 12,565 miles that was in perfect condition. $7,500. Be patient it is a buyers market.

if the bike was well taken care of the miles not an issue unless your getting way up there. My bike is an 07 i bought new and i have put 42,000 miles on it but i use amsoil change the oil every 3,500 to 4,500 miles and keep it washed and waxed do the tires, brakes, and all regular maintenance.

Now the key is like others said look around why buy an 02 or 04 with 24,000 miles on it for $10,000 when you can just as easily find a 2007 or 2008 with alot less miles for the same price its a buyers market right now.

I think the "generic" used bike milage number most people wrap their head around is 20K. Bikes with under 20K seem to sell with reasonable frequency. Over that and most people pass unless they can get a real bargin with lots of extras and service records.

When I bought my 02 FXDXT in march of 09 it had less than 8,000 miles on it, now it has more than 20,000.

i've had good luck buying used (some would say i stole the bikes)

bought a 90 heritage that had been crashed and had 12,500 miles on it for 3500 bucks and rebuilt it.

total cost when the bike looked like this was 6,000. sold it for 7,500.

bought my 08 street bob that had been laid down with 1500 miles on it for 5800 bucks.

after this winter my bike will be exactly as i want it for a grand total of 9,000 including purchase price.

maybe i'm not the person to ask, but in my opinion, look for one somebody crashed and be willing to put 2-3 months into making it yours and you'll come out way ahead both in terms of your wallet and the way you feel about your bike.

In April we found a 2000 Lowrider with around 8k for $6500. HD Saddlebags, HD custom wheels, Corbin seat (since replaced), engine guard, hiway pegs, etc. My S/O loves it but she is replacing some of the add on chrome pieces cause the PO lived at the beach and its pitting and flaking.

Yesterday I picked up a 07 Street Bob with 6000 miles for 7900, which became 8500 with tax, tag, and title. Custom tribal flame paint and Shortshots are the only mods.

Very happy with both deals but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a bike with less than 20k if the deal was right.

BTW, I got the SB by watching eBay. Bids didn't get to the seller's reserve so I emailed and told him I'd go 7900 and save him the eBay listing fee as well as the Paypal fee since he was only 80 miles away. Good deal for me and him. Don't hesitate to email eBayers when their stuff doesn't sell. They listed it to get rid of and may have finally realized the market is not what is once was and what they WANT to get isn't what the CAN get for it. Don't be insulting or lowball them, but make a fair offer and you've got a good chance in my experience.
