Another possibility is your timing pickup is on it's way out. They often will start going when the motor gets up to temp, before they quit completely.

Gunk in the tank I bet. I had an '89 FXRS that did that until I sealed the inside of the tank and put a clean petcock / filter in.

allright so far i have ruled out the coil and most of the electrical stuff. i have an aluminum tank that is pretty clean, petcock is now non vacuum and working. so it must be carb problems, im taking the bike to a friend who knows more about it than i do. i guess in a couple days ill find out

quick question. how do you check the timing pick up and how do i know its bad??

You could try removing the cover and gasket, heating the pick-up with a heat gun, then try starting the motor. If it starts, mabe keep the heat on it a little longer, see if it shuts down.

carb pins and pin seats. i dont know what this does all i know is carb was not feeding gas properly. mikuni you are out s&s on the way, should be here tomarrow and running by friday. rocknroll
