I got this 1996 Dyna Glide Convertible. These bags were designed by the MOCO specifically for this bike to be a quick disconnect deal. Pretty ugly, but they work. I can't see 'em while I'm riding.
I always carry a tool kit in the left side bag and my tire repair kit in the fork bag. After riding for 54 years, I like to be prepared.
I removed the horrible HD windshield set-up and replaced it with a National Cycle one. Much better looking and easier to remove.
Anyway, there it is.

I got caught in some light rain twice and both times it kept me mostly dry from the waist up. The wind protection is really good too.

Yeah, but looks do matter.....
Something like saddlebags, like seats, bars, & paint.... Is going to be very subjective...
I would never use a set of the "adventure" bags that look like suitcases. I don't like hard bags on anything but a bagger. I've been partial to leather saddlebags that kind of look like they just came of a cowboy's horse, since my first saddlebags on my 1980 FXS Low Rider.....
But that is just my personal taste... One thing for sure, I NEED a set of saddle bags.... I didn't have them on my first bike, but once I added them to my second bike, I knew I would never have another bike without them.
My current '16 Low Rider:
