Default O2 Sensor Installation.

Planing on changing out the pipes to the short shot vance and hines. Have not worked with a sensor in the exhaust. Just want to know how they mount and if there is a gasket needed for installing on the new pipes.

No gasket needed. It ain't rocket science, just don't contaminate the sensor (don't even touch the business end with your hands), and make sure you use anti-seize compound on the threads.

Un-plug em from the harness, pull em with the pipes & remove/install em on the bench.

+1 to the anti-seize. I just spent close to two hours today replacing a single O2 sensor on my truck. Of course it was the most difficult sensor to get to--and it was locked up in there so bad that it took repeated heating of the exhaust pipe (accomplished by running the engine, probably would have stayed warmer longer if it wasn't 15 degrees outside) and pounding on the end of some vise grips clamped to the O2 sensor. What a pain in the a$$!

As was mentioned, they can be fragile. Make sure to unplug the wire, don't drop the sensor, don't get anything like oil on the sensor tip. Except for being careful, its a simple unscrew from one pipe and screw into the second, unless the second doesn't have the bungs. Then there will be some welding involved. Its helpful to use the special O2 sensor socket that you can get at any auto or tool shop as it is durable and has a slot for the wire.

Also make sure the antisieze is copper based or lead free.
