I finished my home-fabbed license plate yesterday and it is mounted and looks great to me. Cost me $20 tip to guy who MIG'd it (I only have a SMAW and torch) plus a couple washers and bolt. I would have posted the thread by now with photos but my cpu crashed and I'm using family member's laptop right now. If your on the fence about ordering a vertical sidemount go see what you can make happen with the stock fender hardware. Photos soon

 

Unless I'm missing the boat, WalMart has chrome a license plate frame for less than $7.00. Chrome nuts/bolts for less than $2.00.

I saw a plate holder that was part of the primary
inspection cover on a soft tail. Does anyone know
who makes this. Looked real nice.

 

Derby plates

Went to a buddy'e house to help him install a derby cover/plate holder on his 06 FXDB . As soon as I took it out of the box I was impressed. I loved the look. 1 problem I saw immeiateley... you can no longer reach the kickstand! I suppose you could dismount the bike and balance it while you fumble around to reach it with your hand.
It is not IMPOSSIBLE to reach the kickstand tabs but it is far more difficult and less natural.

For $20 I'll make ya one like in my sig. It lays almost completly flat with the fender. It's not a frame though, just a bracket, you can see the entire plate from the back of the bike. Some plate modification may be required(slotting holes). I'll try to get some pics up tonight. If interested PM me.
