Wiring harness abrasion againt ground bolt
I don't have a digital camera so I"ll try to explain this to the best of my ability. You guys all know where a cable comes out of the battery and bolts down to the bike right? I think this is the "ground" bolt (not sure if it's + or -). Anyway My 09 Dyna has a wiring harness that is routed beside this bolt. The problem is that they touch and the thread from the bolt has been slowly rubbing through the wiring harness. I would hate for the protective coating on the harness to be completely worn through, as that would lead to electrical problems. I'm gonna drop by the shop and see if they can figure out a way to cover the thread.
Surely this problem has been encountered before. Just wondering what people have done to rectify the problem.

Related but slightly different story:
Started hearing a rubbing kinda sound when backing my 04 FLHTI up. Everything sounded/ran perfectly when riding. Kept meaning to look into it but riding is always more fun than maintenance.
Long story short, one day I get on, turn the switch, hit the button and sparks started flying out right below my a$$! No, I didn't have tacos for breakfast.
The harness that holds the maxi fuse had come loose of the tieback and hung down next to the drive belt. When the bike bounced or leaned it hit the belt which slowly cut right through the fuse and the fuse holder.
Think that one cost me around $200 since the entire harness had to be replaced. Just lucky I wasn't riding and had an ignition cut out and that the ECM wasn't toasted.
Glad you spotted and corrected yours early. I'd look into why your cable runs different from others.

make sure the rubber cap has silicone on it then apply over the bolt.. you don't want it vibrating off. This actually mush be somewhat common, I was talking to someone at a dealer a while back who had his bike in cause of a problem with it idling. Turns out the situation you described is what the cause was. Harness wire rubbing ground bolt. They were telling him it was common and zip tied the harness out of the way. Also said they do this as part of their new bike prep on their bikes cause of it being a common issue.

I had a that same wiring harness melt to the back of the rear cylinder on my 09 FXD. Brand new and happened after only 200 miles. Dealer said it was not covered but only charged me 30 bucks to replace

Why would that not be covered ?
