The OEM tach wire is set up to run off a Data-Buss(one wire is used for more than one thing)the tach you have needs to run off the coil.the shielding stops the the signal from going any where else.

Okay, now I understand why I need shielding but I still don't know is what it is and how I go about getting it.
If the 2006 is a delphi ECU, it should provide a tach signal at pin 3. You will have to add a pin to the connector. Most tachs, regardless of make, will work off of that signal.
