your instructions say to the negative side of the coil... i thought the tack feed on injected bikes was off the ECM though..

I'm not sure if this will help, but this is a link to a guy installing a tach in his Shadow.

Looks like you have the wrong kind of tach. You need a digital tach that connects to the DATABUS wire.

You can run the green wire to the neg side of the coil but you should use use a shielded wire so the signal don't mess up your ECM

That is not what I was hoping to hear.

I need a bit more information on this suggestion...a shielded wire?

I tried that and the needle bounces when cranking the engine but when it starts the needle returns to zero and just sits there.

The OEM tach wire is set up to run off a Data-Buss(one wire is used for more than one thing)the tach you have needs to run off the coil.the shielding stops the the signal from going any where else.

Okay, now I understand why I need shielding but I still don't know is what it is and how I go about getting it.

Thanks BTW.

If the 2006 is a delphi ECU, it should provide a tach signal at pin 3. You will have to add a pin to the connector. Most tachs, regardless of make, will work off of that signal.

Here is someone that did it on a 2006:
