Question Poll of '06 owners: How Many IPB Failures?

I'm curious about whether or not you've had an Inner Primary Bearing failure yet and, if so, how many times. As for myself, I've had two failures. The last one (May '09), HD fixed me up with new '07+ doweled IP and Tranny Cases.

I took my primary apart at like 10k miles cause of a blown shaft seal. The bearing and race looked fine. No dowels on my primary. I bought a bearing and race and keep them in my tool box just in case. I'm thinking about doing a 30 tooth pulley this winter so I'll have another look see then, will probably weld the stator while I'm in there.

Edit...not sure of the build date, but I bought it Jan. 13, 2006

Just once for mine. It was built march 06. Dealer fixed it no charge two months after the warranty expired. Went at about 9,600 miles. I have more then double that now so this bearing as more miles then the first. Currently no noise at all.

Good thread Patrick! Get enough responses on here it will give people ammo to use for a no cost fix.

Mine lost the IPB at 15,300 miles. I went to the Baker bearing just to avoid having to fight for the fix. Harley's customer service said the dealer had to call for the reference number and the dealer played dumb and wouldn't listen. I'm probably a better wrench than most dealer techs so I said **** on it and did it myself!

Mine has gone twice
At 13k and then again at 18k. The second time was after the warranty went, I called the MOCO about 6-7 times before they agreed to fix it properly at there cost.
The O7 Inner, tranny case etc.
This forum has been a great help to me.
I never would have known anything about this without the forum.
Thanks guys.

'06 Super Glide, 10,000 miles, no issues yet!?

Don't get very cold down here in south Louisiana but when I see the cold/rainy season set in (if it does), I'm opening her up and changing the stator and bearing! Don't want to be a couple hundred miles from home and break down! ~$250 worth of parts is worth piece of mind!

Great thread, great forum! Thanks HDForums.com!

My wife's 06 Bob is looked after at an Indy, but up here there is not to many problems with any Harley that is not common knowledge, this problem is not on the radar here BUT--a seized transmission main shaft is----according to the Indy, 6 in the last while--bearing failure!.

I put it to not using gear oil in the trans.

Bought the Stator & Rotor just in case--she's made a deal on a 2010 Lo---so will be for sale in the spring.
