Default 6 speed tranny

Damn I need a six speed for my Dyna . My cousin bought a 09 fxd with 96 " and 6speed. I rip past him all day on the streets but on the highway he thinks he's hot **** because he blows past me with the extra gear thinking his bike is fast not understanding my bike is like a pumped muscle car and his is a lincoln continental.

I wasn't aware the 6 speed models had a higher top end speed! In fact if I want to push my bike to the limit I have to leave it in 5th. Highest I've gone was 121 mph If I put it in 6th it can actually loose speed unless I shift super fast and hold the throttle open, and even at that....a couple minutes of that treatment and I start feeling like I don't want to abuse my poor bike.

My Opinion, don't waste money and effort JMO

this post has to be a troll or something. My bike does not accelerate well in 6th gear, it drops the rpm for sure but if I want to pass or something you can bet I am dropping to 5th if not 4th.

My '09 FXD accelerates extremely well when I'm in 6th gear. If I'm doing 75, and can roll the throttle back just a little bit and I'm at 90 in a few seconds with lots of throttle still left and still climbing and roaring past the semi's I want to get away from. Those who say their 6th does them no good might not have broke the engine in properly, IMO, because mines doing me right.

I agree that 6th does still accelerate and nicely, but you will get more out of 5th. Just try it.

These bikes are geared too tall, my 30T pulley made a big difference.

My 6th is very strong in my 09 Ultra. 60 to 90 Mph no problem. Highway speeds at 75-85 are a breeze. I was always looking for another gear on my 06 Ultra.

Original post sounds a little fishy. Top speed on the 5 speed transmission is no less than on the 6 speed.
