A 55w lamp is already pulling 4.5 amps through that wire. That's pretty much a low-end, low beam. Don't put anything else on that circuit.
Wire an auxillary tap, either from the battery itself, or if you really need switchable power, use a relay like that is used on driving lights and let it handle the current.
But wire it in right the first time, and don't hack into another circuit.

And for the smoking jibes, and advice on torches and matches and stuff
Its to be used to power a GPS, not lighting cigarettes...
I was looking at different angles.
It looks as if im going to power it direct from the battery.
