2007fxdc, you had me guessing what it was made out of so I went ahead and took it off the leather panel. Be careful because it is a very thin piece of aluminum and will bend pretty easy. I slid a utility knife underneath and sawed back & forth until it came off. The back of the medallion is actually foam.
Thanks man. That's how I sort of envisioned having to go about it. I think the chrome piece should come tomorrow. When I have time to mock it up, I'll post a pic or two to see what everyone thinks. If I decide to do it, I'd like to use something that might make it removable later on. With that panel being made out of plastic, though, not sure how possible that will be.

If the back of it is foam, carefully cut a very small recess in it and then superglue
the head of a small, short screw in it; an electrical socket grounding screw would
be about right. Drill a matching hole in the console and screw it in place with a bit
more superglue between the foam and the console. As long as you don't really
whack it hard enough to pop the screw out of the foam, it should be pretty secure.
