Thanks everyone. I did it by hand. I took the fender off but left the wheel on and masked over the chrome covers. I wet sanded with 600 grit till all of the machine marks were gone, then 800, 1000, and 2000 grit. After that I used 0000 steel wool and metal polish. After that I buffed it all up with a soft rag and reinstalled the fender. I need to hit up the left side again with 2000 grit and polish once more I think.
when i polished the smaller parts on my old bike i just used rubbing/polishing compound and then shined it up with a metal polish. i might try and go that route instead of sanding.

I'm sure it will shine it up, but unless you take the imperfections down somehow then you will have a texture and/or wave under that shine and it won't look right in my opinion. Small parts are one thing, but dealing with something like fork sliders that have a ton of machine marks on them need a little more than just polishing compound to get that glass smooth look to them.
Thanks mate, I'm liking yours too. The best colour of all the wide glides. I thought about V+H 2 into 2 pipes but in the end went for Zodiac slip ons. Still get a nice low throaty sound and quite loud too.
