Default Took the WG to the drag strip today

I have to say it wasn't a very good day. Turns out in October a 55* sunny and slightly windy sunday will draw aprox 240 entries for test n tune! 4 hours and 4 runs I had it and went home. I must also add that I had 2 runs in the first hour there so I had plenty of waiting to do.

I know excuses are like.....But here they are.

My shift light didn't work....at all! No tach either. Kinda hard to shift by sound when I have never ridden my bike with a helmet on before today!

We had a pretty good head wind

First time at the strip in 6 years, first time with a harley. Only got 4 runs over 4 hours so it was kinda hard to nail down any technique.

My best time was 12.76 at 102.67MPH with a 1.96 60' time. I ran two 12.7's a 13.3(first pass) and a 13.0(missed shift) With more practice I am sure I would have run 12.3-12.5 My 60' times should get down to about 1.7 with practice and a shift light will help with hitting the limiter.

Here are the pics my dad took. The black V-rod is my brothers.

Headwind

Racing my brother

Against a ZX10 I got him out of the hole. My front tire was off the ground a inch or so....I need to leave harder!

He caught me by the 1/8th

The time

I need to do that. The last time I was at the strip was '95 and that was with my GTO. It ran 11.88 at 114 mph. I don't think the bike would come close to that.

I would love to take my busa to a test and tune night. But I don't have full leathers.

That looks like a lotta fun! What engine mods do you have done to your WG? I remember you did something a while back..

How'd your brothers VRod do?

You may want to get rid of that windshield if you go again.....it's a real drag.

Here is a link to my engine build https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...o-results.html Its a 95" with headwork and Andrews 37G cams. It was dyno'd by Valley Racing at 100hp and 108tq

My brothers V ran a best of 12.007 at 108.66. He was pretty dissapointed he didnt get a 11.99 He has a Rienhart 2-1 and PC-V with auto tune. He only got two good runs. Every time he hits the rev limiter the bike shuts down. He has had some problems with the auto tune....and the thundermax he used to have....I like it old school....I like my carb!!

I actually had it raked back as far as possible. I was tucked behind it. I kinda thought it helped?

In my younger years, the shield would come off, and as soon as I pulled the hole shot, I would lay down on the tank. That seemed to work best for me.

One other thought, you may want to use your pasenger pegs for your foot position instead of your foward controls. When you come thru the lights, you can straighten your body, and re-position your feet.

Respects,
Ed

Not sure I can do that on a HD. I'm 6'2" and 250lbs....I don't hide from wind too well

Next year I will try a few different things. Along with a bigger engine
