I have the Bassani RR short. No issue with them damaging the Leatherpros in my experience. Although I only use them a couple times a year for longer trips. The exit of the exhaust fires under the bags so I dont see how they could be damaged. Maybe he was referring to the longer upswept pipe.
FYI don't wrap your thunderheader, it will crack from the heat. Check out Wolfmojo's posts. His lasted about 2 seasons before total failure. Spend the money and buy the heatshields.

Sidenote: my 05' 5-Speed has 32T front and 70T rear gearing. Been tossing around the idea of getting 30T front pulley since I wont have the money to get a big bore kit with cams for a while. Can I go to a 30T while still using the same belt and everything? If I can't then I might as well go with chain conversion so I can adjust the gearing.

Good to know about wrapping the thunderheaders. Did some more research and it seems that they are cracking more times than not. I'm gonna go ahead and roll without anything for a while and may eventually get the upper heatshield.

AdamM that's what I thought but I wanted to see if anyone had done it on a 5-speed. I know guys have done it on a 6-speed with no issues. They said you can still cruise at 75-85 without issues.

Your bike is your bike, but I disliked it. I did the 30/70 combo on my Streer Bob and RPMs we're way too high on the freeway. I would imagine it being even worse with the 5 speed because I already feel like RPMS are too high at the 90mph mark

Thanks for the feedback emerican. I was talking to some of the other guys and that was the feedback I was getting from them also on the 5-speed. They were saying they mainly do it to try and get their 6-speed to a 5-speed feel. I don't plan on making my bike into a stunt bike so I still want it to be able to eat up miles on the highway. Since that is the case I'm going to go ahead and focus on trying to finish up my brakes system and then onto the suspension

Not to mention it throws your speedo off. It always said I was going 100mph and it was really closer to 80. I think it was off by 14% or something. Again, not trying to sway you, but just some info.
It's fun in the city from stop light to stop light, but I commute 45 mins each way to work and it just wasn't a win for me- higher RPM's, thus less MPG, inaccurate speedo just for a little extra torque. Kind of a poor man's mind trick to feel like a more powerful bike. The bike isn't faster, just yanks harder from a stop.

Yeah I have a similar commute. When I ride in to work I will put 90-100 miles on my bike just to and from work. Definitely doesn't sound like it would suit my riding. I have heard good things about the Works dual rate Black Tracker 13.5" springs but does anybody have any feedback on either the 13 3/8" Ohlins S36E shocks from Dynamic Dyna or the Progressive 444 in 13" length. Looking to go with either a 13" or 13.5" setup and not really looking to spend more than $700. Then I'll start working on the front end.

Just to add to everyone else on the 30/70 question:
I did the conversion on my fxdx and yes, you can use the same belt (gets pretty tight though), but it does also screw up your speedo, and I didn't notice much of a difference.
Not enough for the work anyways.
Maybe I was expecting more (I switched the rear sprocket on my Yam XS, and felt a much bigger difference), but I ended up buying cams anyways.
Just my $.02.
