Default Having hard time w/ internal wiring on bars!!!

i got my new 12" bars in for my 09 street bob. so harley wants to charge a freakin 5 hr job for this! no way in hell I'm paying that. I unclipped the left side harness but by the looks of it how does the other end of the harness fit through the bars?

then I got the smaller bundle unhooked on the right side but one harness is still connected and I can't reach it. is there another way to get this or do I just need to keep trying to pull it out by gently tugging on the wires. this is really bringing on the headaches. thanks guys

I believe you need to unplug them from the other end (under the tank) and remove the end clips (pull the wire clips out individually) to pull it through on the the handlebar side.

For my 09 Fatbob I did the following since the 14" apes needed longer wires.

a. took of the tank
b. unhooked the harness and ran them out of the frame (took rubber frame-gromett off as well to make this easy)
c. cut the plugs off.
d. pulled out the wires.
e. droped a household chain in the new bars, taped the wires to the grip side and pulled them through the new bar.
f. mocked up the bars on the bike
g. extended my wires and reattached the harness ends..then reassembled.

I hope this helps.

Lots of info on this if you search, but basically you need to access the connections under the tank. You probably don't need to remove the tank, just remove the little cover underneath (frame under tank) and fish out the wire connectors. once they are disconnected you will have to remove the pins from the connectors (keep track of what wire goes where). from there you can back wires out of the bars with the grips & controls. Installation is the reverse. On my first go it took several hours.

Are you trying to access the connectors from both the sides and the underside of the frame neck?

Just making sure you have found the plastic panel and removed it from the underside of the frame at the neck.

09 model, should be molex connectors.............
.
.
Very simple to remove the wires. (pix follow)

First off you have a hook tool........
.
.

.
Insert the hook tool into one of the D shaped holes
and the point will aim at the other Dhole.
(small needlenosed pliers can also be used)
.
.

.
Above, use the tool to pull up about a quarter inch.
(you are pulling up the secondary lock)
DO NOT try to pull the secondary lock all the way out, pull up about a quarter inch.
.
Now, below I show a little T wrench I made up,
(for the primary lock)
using .032 stainless steel wire.......
.
.

.
Now, below, this is where you wanna poke your tool.
Doesn't take much, you don't need to bend anything.
Just push your tool in gently,
and pull it out the back (the wire).
.
.

.
.
.
All of the high performance fittings that are used these days are marked.

Whether they be AMP, Deutsch, or Molex (pictured below).

..........they are all marked....
....so note color to corresponding number during disassembly...............
