Ok guys I have decided on the laydown style light, what about the plate window? Yes or No and why?

The title of your post mentions a plate light... whats a plate window?

 

The small area that is clear on the brake light lens.

I don't particularly want my plate lit up but Arizona law requires it so that is why I have lights, and that is what the clear window in the red lens is for. You may or may not have a law for lighting your tag but check.

 

take it appart, and paint it. i have shot them black in the past, or red to match the unit... on mine i put some CNC'd dice above it to show them off when i hit the brakes... it also lights up the harley logo on the back rest when i have the wife on the back... looks pretty cool

 

If you are running the plate on the fender, then you probably need it.

When I put my plate on the swingarm, I put a chrome-type Harley sticker over it...the heavy material keeps the light from shining through. You can just see it in the pic below.
