Default Hot exhaust = melted boot heel

Does anyone else here have the problem of a melted boot heel on the hot exhaust? It's probably the way I sit on the bike but I'm finding that I keep melting the rubber boot heel and leaving a horrible caggy mess on the exhaust. I need to sort something soon before it gets too bad because it starting to leave permanent marks on there now.

I'm just going to make some kind of bracketry and a foot support to bolt on there but thought I ask here first to see if anybody had any better ideas than me! I really don't want to put forward controls on either by the way - i just don't find them comfortable.

So, while I'm waiting for the replies to come floodng in I'm off down to the metal suppliers to see what I can find.

Well the most sure fire way to keep yourself from doing it, is to give your bike to me.

Other than that, the Magic Erasers have worked well for me to clean my pipes... not sure if they would take your marks off or not.

Took a few minutes, but did the trick.

I had the same problem. I messed up a pair of boots, not to mention my pipes. So I made a major effort to move my foot into the right position. I also cut an old heat shield and put it on the bad spot. I think you can see it on the pic.

Harley Davidson's boots don't melt, and are worth the money you pay for them.

I had the same problem so I wrapped my pipes with exhaust tape. The pipes still melt my boot but it isn't melting onto the pipes. I like what Mole Rat did with the heat shield.

Tell that to the exhaust pipe where my wife's boot was. Not sure how long her boot was on there, but there was absolutely melted boot on the pipe. Only way she kept from doing that - floorboards.

If HD's boots melted, take em back. The sales people love to say how they are melt proof.

My normal work boots kept leaving rubber on my pipes, I went to HD and had no problems............yet

a copper penny (pre 1982) will clean almost anything off chrome without scratching it.
