I'm in the same boat...the stock rear tire has 7430 miles and less than 3/32 tread left...barely enough to get my bike's new state inspection sticker today. Less than 2/32 and it won't pass...no burnouts, solo riding and always check tire pressure every three to four days.

I know,i'm goin with another one, though, simply because it matches the front, and it's perfect.I did find a world of difference between my two local dealers, though, one wants $194.00 for it and the other 50 miles away, has it on sale for $109.00

The stock K591 is a sport tire, very soft.. I only got 5500 out of mine. D407 is a great tire.... Harley lettered even... if that's what you mean by 'matching'. If it's the radial vs: bias you're worried about... I have/had zero issues.

Got same bike, (same color too!) same problem. 8000 on oem tires. Thinking of Metzlers next go round. Anyone here have them on and how much better do they wear? One up, lots of hi-way miles, no burn-outs, ck pressure every time I take "Candy" out for a putt.

I'm running metzeler and have about 7000 miles on em. My gauge indicates 4 in front and 6 in the rear. I also run my pressure at the HD recommended psi and not 40psi plus like many do.

Metz tires generally wear out more quickly,it's part of the trade of traction vs. durability.

I was showing CHORDS at 7000 Miles on the stocker (NO burnouts but agressive all the time). Went with the Dunlop 180...

It's very hard to compare tire wear with other riders.
You need to take into consideration the type of road surfaces your riding on, total weight the bike is carrying, tire pressure, etc.

Average life of a rear motorcycle tire is 8,000 to 12,000 miles.
Aggressive riding or riding on rough asphalt two lane twisties will probably shorten it to less than average.
Two-Up or single rider also plays a big part.

You'll more than likely get even less mileage from one of the more sporty tires.
It's a compromise, with the tire compound.
The "sticky" tires that are so good at holding the road in the twisties are very soft and won't give you optimal mileage.
