Default 07 steering

my son has a 07 wide glide. the other day i rode it and heard a horrible noise from the front end. sounded like something loose. i looked it over and shook it but did not feel anything. i am thinking it may be more of an up and down noise. while i was looking at it i did not notice any grease fitting on the neck like my streetglide. i am assuming they must be sealed bearings. any ideas what to look for or what to do about the noise. the bike does not shake or shimmy just a clunking noise . thanks

There's an adjustment, called fall-away... you have to tighten the steering bearings so that the front tire falls away from center about 2 inches when tipped. The bike has to be lifted, there should not be cables in the way, it's a common adjustment as the bearings wear in. Sounds like they're loose... there's also an ECN about this, with a new torque spec and washer, not sure if the '07's got this or not. Do not just tighten the nut under the cover... the real nut is under the top triple-tree, you can look in the side and see it. My advice to you, and anyone else, is to spend the money on the factory service manual, otherwise known as FSM. RTFSM! __ Steve .
