First off, you have hydraulic cam rensioners.
If you're really worried about it, buy a new cam cover gasket, 3 quarts of oil and a filter. Drain the oil, paying close attention to whatever ferrous metals that may be stuck to the magnetic plug. Allow your drained oil to sit in the drain pan for about a half an hour, then slowly pour the oil off into the recycling container. Watch what has settled in the bottom of the drain pan. Aluminum fragments will be in there if something has gone wrong. If you have orange plastic in there, you got problems.
If it all looks ok, and you feel ambitious, pull the cam cover. If something is in the process of failing, the big stuff will be in that cavity. The scavenger side of the pump wont pull the big stuff, only smaller pieces, which will generally destroy the pump.
This is what it ought to look like when you pull the cover. Keep a box of kleenex handy if it doesnt, cause you're gonna cry.
