help me decide
My wife has allotted me $16000 for a new and bigger bike here are my choices so far
2006 Harley Davidson street bob
dealer is giving me 2000 trade on my bike and not knocking anything off the price $14750
http://www.harley-davidson.com/PR/MO...ection=gallery
or
2005 Honda VTX1800f spec 3
dealer is giving me $3500 trade and is knocking $2600 off msrp for a total purchase price of $8999
http://powersports.honda.com/motorcy...Style=VTX18F15
keep in mind that I also want to add saddlebags, mustang seat, exhaust, intake and tune. that leaves me pushing it money wise on the Harley where as if I bought the Honda it leaves enough left over to put a jacuzzi in the back yard.
please help

RE: help me decide
Hey, if you don't care, then you might be wasting your money on the Harley.
If you do care or are just trying to sell yourself on saving the money, then you wont be happy with the metric.
You could private sell your bike for more than HD will give you on trade most likely and bring that price down a bit.

Joe- I think you need to get another HD dealer or work on them for the price. The street bob MRSP is $ 13,480.00 plus $ 275 freight for a total of 13,755.00. Unless you were quoting out of the door price which includes taxes, title etc. So the $ 14,750 seems high. I will tell you that I called five Honda deaelrships around my area last Aug. looking to buy either a Harley or a VTX 1800. Not a one of the Honda delaers would even budge off the list price of 13-15 k. I said the 06 are coming and they said well they are not here yet. So I went out and got my 05 Super Glide. Now I got the SG at MRSP price, but it took 2 hours to work the dealership down. The best move I made. Now the Hodna dealers are doing the fire sale routine with the VTX again like they did a few years ago. It just drops the re-sell value of the bike even worse. The VTX is a great bike, but you need to get the one you like the most and will make you happy! The Bob is a very cool bike and who knows if HD will make it again this coming year?

It depends on what you WANT, and if you are going to trade the next bike in the future. You will get purty much all your HD investment back on trade-in, whereas you would be back in the same ballpark for the Honder.
The 1800 is a fatter bike, too, so that makes a difference on riding.
You can still add all the stuff you want and come below 18k on the Bob, which would be the 16k limit w/trade in.
Just ask yourself what you really want.
...and remember, you cannot park a Honda in the Harley areas of rallies.

Now come on,......... This is a Harley forum,....do you think we are gonna go tell ya to buy a Honda? But then again,... If you were on a Honda forum you probably would here them say get a Honda. So here's my 1cent worth. Buy the Harley ,.....You must want it or ya wouldn't be looking to the guys on here for reassurance. Bottom line it will sure hold its value as compared to that Honda. And the best thing about getting the Harley is that,.........It's a HARLEY!
