Pretty good price for the 06. The difference is almost enough to get an 95" upgrade on the 06 if you want it to match the new 07 96" motor. The 06 has been out for a year so almost all of the bugs here been taken care of or people have figured them out. The 07 is a new breed again. 07 has a 96" motor with LED idiot indicators and a few other upgrades. Tough choice. I had the same thing happen to me last year on the 05 vs 06. I bought the 05 SG, one because I didn't like the unknown factor with the new 06 at the time. Given a choice again maybe I might have held out for an 06, but I would have missed some great riding time from Aug 05 until when the color of bike I wanted would have came in. Also if I had gotten the 06 then I would be wondering if I should have waited for the 07's.[8D]

Joe,

I owned an '05 VTX1800F spec 3. Tons of torque and quite a looker (I especially liked the cool LCD tach/speedo - very high techy looking). But... it's a HEAVY bike and has **** poor lean angle. And as you can see from the price you're being offered, it has terrible resale value. I know that's probably not important since you plan to keep the bike but it gives you a good idea of how a bike is viewed in the market.

In a straight line, there's few cruisers that will keep up with the VTX but it's not a bike you're going to enjoy flicking around - especially compared to the Street Bob. If I were going to buy another VTX (I've owned 2), I'd go back to the VTX1300. Much better handling and considerably less $$$ (hopefully Honda will add EFI to it for '07).

Also, Honda's '07 VTX lineup will be announced at the Honda dealer show in Vegas on September 7th. If you're leaning toward the VTX, you may be able to get an even better deal then.

(Disclaimer: I really like Hondas. In my opinion, Honda and BMW are the top-tier metric bikes. But cruisers are not their forte. I had fit and finish issues with my VTX1300 and that was enough to push me away from Honda for good.)

Just my $.02 worth. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

Buy a Harley that you can haul the Ol'Lady around on and she won't need a stinking jacuzzi!

You could have gotten yourself a 2006 Street Bob for about 12 to 13 grand. You did mention that your wife alotted you 16 grand. Too bad! Hope you still enjoy the Honda. I would have also opted for a Honda if I couldn't afford the Harley.

I hope you like it. I'm sure it's a good bike.

I'm trying real hard here to not call you a #@%$^&&*.

I'll see you next year when you trade it for a bike with character.

As much as I want it, I simply can't afford the harley right now. Maybe in a few years.

I thought about buying a jap bike, but they are just so damned ugly. The slanteyes idea of style and my idea of style just doesn't line up.
