Default Detachable Saddlebags - FXDF

Can any of the Saddlebags for the FXDF be set up as "detachable"? I have the detachable backrest/rack on my bike now, what would I have to change to be able to fit detachable bags on the bike? Which ones do you recommend??? Sometimes I can't fit all my stuff in the small bag I have now (especially if it gets hot and I lose the jacket).

There are lots of bags out there that are detachable in a matter of seconds. Most popular seem to be Boss Bags and Leather Pros. I have the Boss Bags and they are extremely high in quality and function.

Any change to existing hardware to make them work?

It replaces the rear strut hardware which you can see in the first pic. The next is what it looks like with the bags on and you can see the area for a sissy bar to mount to as well.

So it appears it adds that outer "nub" to secure the bags to. Does that come with the detachable bags, or do I need to purchase separately? Any other modifications?

If you were to order Boss Bags or Leather Pros, you would get everything you need. Some bikes require blinker relocation kits but the Fat Bob does not. Very easy job to do.

I have H-D 91615-09 leather covered rigid locking bags with Easy Brackets. I had to remove (grind off rivets) the mounting attachment plates on the bags before installing the Easy Brackets.

Go with the Boss bags and don't look back. I have to admit, I have only removed them for cleaning and maybe one ride.

Save money buy rigid mounts, get longer bolts and feed them through from inside the rear fender discarding the backplate that's in there. Keep it in stock who knows! Check my pics and istructs. Also have a look at the post beneath my 2 there is a good esthetic fix there for ya. It's in the how to under 50 topic.
