Default forward controls now I Cant find neutral:::::::::::

Well
After installing forward controls on my superglide 2 months ago I have been having a hard time gettin into neutral.
(I didnt take the primary apart)
I have heard it is because I didnt replace the trans lever with the longer one from the kit.

so

I tried to get the stock one off and there isnt enough room to slide it off shaft.
I read on hear that others have been successful

so am I doing something wrong??

Thanks

if you mean are you doing something wrong in that you cannot remove the trans shift lever wit the inner pri in place, I would say no
I am unaware that any model has enough room to do that
maybe some do now( I can't imagine it), but it would be a new thing, thats for sure

This is odd, I actually found it easier to find neutral with forwards than with the mids(still went back to mids). Try adjusting your actual shift lever a bit. Maybe the angle there is causing you to go past N.

The gearchange on my dresser gets difficult when the pivots dry out. Try greasing all the moving bits and see if that works.

I change the arm on my wife's 06 fxd. Do a search on this forum and you will see a lot of people replaced the arm and did not split the primary. After replacing the arm she was able to find neutral with no issues. Good luck

seems strange that one model/bike has room to remove, and one does not(apparently)
mind you, it does not exactly make my top ten strangest list

Split the outer and inner, the only correct way to do this job IMHO, get the longer arm on there. Great time to go to a chrome inner if you are into that. It will take a few sockets that one wouldn't usually have in his tool box plus the interference bar that keeps the main drive and trans gear from turning during disassemble and reassembly.

this is the part I do not understand regarding the locking bar
It seems to me that the bottom run of the chain would have to pull straight during the torquing process(as in obviously)
but there seems to be a bump in the inner primary, on the bottom, near the front spricket, to allow for an outer primary screw
so it would seem that the chain would apply pressure there during tightening
there is also a stepped tool, intended for use by placing between the chain and sprocket, but a quick ckeck of the book says not to use it, as it can cause damage
Thoughts?

I did have to unplug the spark plug wires and move them out of the way. I then loosened the trans shifter arm and with a 90 degree screwdriver I was able to pry the splines open a little bit. I tiped the top of the shifter arm towards the engine and there was enough clearance to sneak it out. The new shaft was already was never compressed so I did not have to pry it at all I just put it down in there at an angel and it slid right on no problem and I did not have to force anything it went right together about an hour and a half.
