From how I understand your description of it , anyway..

Has nothing to do with the clutch...if it's a bad IPB, when you pull in the clutch lever, the noise disappears. Often there's no noise, but then you put the bike in gear and then back to neutral and release the clutch and hear the noise very distinctly. But I'd say if the dealer really did all that work and you're still hearing the noise, it is NOT the IPB!

I brought the bike in today to get the steering clunk fixed. After making some serious noise... I convinced a mechanic to take a look at my IPB noise. They denied it until I started losing it... finally they heard it and took the bike in to tear it down --- AGAIN. No riding for me this weekend. I'll let you know what happens.

And yes PKelly... the noise is present when the bike is in neutral... but it never totally disappears when I pull the clutch in. It only stops when I drop it in gear.

Here is the itemized list for the repair on my '08 ultra classic. Again, this problem surfaced at ~24,500 miles on the engine, which is a bit more than what others may be seeing the problem arise at.
P/N 34901-07 Gasket, primary cover
P/N 37906-90 Cluch ball bearing, fx,...
P/N 9231 Bearing, roller
P/N 12052A Oil seal, inner primary
P/N 34934-06 Gasket, primary housing t..
P/N 768A bolt seal (qty 5)
P/N 34091-08 Race, inner bearing
P/N 34901-07 Gasket, primary cover

Subtotal was about $200 for all the parts, covered under warranty.

Tore mine down this morning and I don't have dowel pins but it is machined for them. I'll get the pins and put it back together with the baker bearing.

Rick;

Is the tranny case drilled to receive them, if you plug a set into your IPCase? Is your IPCase stamped/cast as a -06A part?

Patrick, just 06 at the end but it will accept the dowels. The bolt holes on the trans & primary are bored to 7/16 and then drop down to the size for a 5/16 bolt. It looks like I can pull the dowel for the starter (shown in the pic of the primary and slip it into the bolt holes for the trans case. It may be wishful thinking on my part but we shall see.

Hmmmmm, weird. If your IPCase is cast as a -06 part and is bored for the dowels, I wonder why they made a -06A case (and included it, and the -06a Tranny case in my upgrade/fix). This seems to invite more questions than it answers. Again, weird.

Well Patrick I tried to move the dowel to one of the trans holes and the hole is smaller. No doubt there is a difference. I need to see a parts breakdown and compare pics and numbers. I think if I can find dowels for the holes I will be golden. If not I'll see how good the Baker bearing is.

UPDATE

Got a call today from the dealership. Tech support in Milwaukee is sending an entire gear set for installation. When? They could not tell me. They feel that it is an alignment problem. So I called Milwaukee to get an ETA.

Takes 5 days before they ship and then they ship ground only... no ifs ands or buts. So I'm at leat 10 days before they begin work. Customer service could care less. I am seriously disappointed.
