Comments on Lowering Fork Through Triple Trees
Stealers say that it is unsafe and they are not allowed to do this. I don't always believe what they say and I know a few of you guys have done this. I am still waiting for the Progressive kit to come in from Phat Performance, but I was thinking of trying this just to see how the bike would look (and feel). Any comments about what the stealers said.

Dealer is telling you that because of clearance issues between the top of your front fender and the bottom of your lower triple tree/frame down tubes. You can get a set of tie downs and crank the front end down till it's bottomed out, then measure the gap.... the gap minus about 1/4" is how far you can move the forks up in the trees. If you haven't lowered the rear, lowering the front may negatively affect handling.

I did this on my SV, I know apples and oranges, but in general if you don't over do it it's plenty safe and if anything will actually improve the handling. On my SV which has pretty standard ergos, similar to a Sportster I dropped the triples about 1/2" and it made steer noticably quicker which I can't imagine being a bad thing on any motorcycle. On my Bob I could probably get away with an inch if I wanted to.

Not a problem. Did that to my '97 WG. The handeling was good (with Gold Valves) but I wanted it lower to the ground. You can only get about 3/4-1" that way, but that's generally plenty.
Shorter springs tend to have a higher rate. Not necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you're after.
