Default This year's project? MORE POWER!!

ok, I' pretty happy with the cosmetics of the bike. I have a couple small things to do, but nothing of major cost or consequence.

So this year, I'm thinking I need more power

Last year it got a 37B cam and 95ci pistons and while still fun, I'm not as impressed as I had hoped I'd be. So time for something else.

Since I'm not spending large $$ on the looks, it can mostly go to engine mods.

Ignition is a must. I think the stocker is limiting my power now. Beyond that I'm looking for triple digit displacement, hp and torque. I'd like to see 90+lbs/ft by 2000-2500RPM and a nice 110-120 table top across the dyno chart. As far as HP, I think 110-120 is still a good number.

I've read on the combinations over at nighthawk and cyclerama, and done a bit of searching. But I'm open to suggestion and would like to begine researching now.

The bike is a 2003 (obviously) and is carbed. I know I'll give up a bit staying with a 2-2 exhaust, but I'll deal with that for the overall look and sound of the bike.

Let's set a budget of around $3500-$4k, just so we don't get crazy

ok... GO!

You did big bore and cams but you didn't mention heads. If you didn't do them, that is probably a large bottleneck for your motor. Properly tuned, I've seen 95" dyno well over 100hp/tq. Check them out at Woodcarbs.com.

you're right. I didn't end up getting the heads done. the Indy that did my motor work kinda screwed me on the deal. I traded a bourget chopper frame, 5 speed evo trans with kicker kit installed, and some other stuff to do the heads, cams and big bore kit. When I got it back it was obvious when I went to swap exhaust that the ports hadn't been touched.
He basically said he couldn't afford to get the heads done, and since it was a trade deal, I decided there wasn't much I would do other than deal with it after riding season.
Heads are definitely on the shopping list.

I like that dyno chart. nice tq curve. I'm afraid to see what mine looks like right now. I don't think he did much tuning beyond a yost kit (supposedly) in the carb.

Maybe before sinking 3-4g into the unknown, get your heads done by a reputable shop. Should cost you between $500 and $750 +/-...

Something tells me you should go back and check what was actually done. If you traded the guy and head work was included...and then he mysteriously couldn't afford it, I would have taken something of equal value back.

If I was paying for something like that (or trading) I'd make sure I got what was agreed upon...and not "supposedly".

yeah, long story behind it all...the indy mechanic is a son of a friend, and I certainly could have run over him like a truck. But I still have time... and going through it to see what he actually did is part of the reason for a tear down. If he cheaped out on anything else internally, or even skipped the big bore opting to only put in stock bore high compression pistons (I got my old ones back...at least I assume they are mine), then he's in for a fight.

Regardless, I want to make sure it's right, and reliable...and makes me grin when I twist the wrist

Forgot to mention, another reason for the teardown:

Was riding alongside my dad on his 06 Fatboy. Stock other then pipes. We both nailed it coming onto a state highway... neither of us could pull on the other. I was pretty disappointed to not be able to pull on a nearly stock fatboy.

Be prepared - once you start doing performance mods it becomes addictive and expensive.

It may be tough to get the numbers you mentioned in the opening post with a 2-2 exhaust.
