My Fat Bob just hit 12,000 miles, and the tread on the front tire is almost gone (rear tire is still okay). I don't ride that aggressive and was wondering if this about the right lifespan. Even the crappy Firestones I put on the truck lasted longer than that.

I normally get 7500 on the rear and 10,000 on the front. You did well. Oh... and I do not ride hard... far from it.

I feel that most people keep their tires on too long. I'm betting that your rear needs to be replaced.

I got 12,484 miles out of my rear tire and the front could have went a little while longer, probably up to 15,000 miles but I had both changed last year in August.
Car tires last longer than motorcycle tires because motorcycle tires are much softer to get better grip.

Bought my FXD in October last year, and I am already looking a changing my rear tire. According to the manual I bought and my tire gauge, I still have thread left, but I don't like the look of it. The tire is worn much more on the inner than the outer. I have only 4k on the bike.
Any thoughts? I think it should have lasted much longer. Original Dunlops.
Thanks

If I got only 4,000 miles out of a tire I'd be pissed.

I've got ~12K on my '09 FXD and changed the rear tire at 10,450 miles (it actually could have had another 500 or so put on it). I weigh 250 and don't ride it hard or fast takeoffs or anything like that and most driveways I pull into and out of are gravel around here, so that doesn't help any I'm sure. My front tire still looks almost brand new. Both tires are the stock Dunlops and the new rear is another stock Dunlop. I ride with 32 psi in the front and 36 in the rear.

11,000 out of my rear (even after some burnouts) and 12,500 out of the front on the Wide Glide.

I changed my rear SE 180 with 10K on it and it still had 3/32 tread left on it. My Metzler got 9K before it was worn down to the TWI. Front Metzler still has plenty of tread on it after 9K, probably can get another 5-6K on it before needing to replace. I weigh about 240 and no burnouts.

Kind of unusual for the rear tire to last longer than the front isn't it?
The rear on my Fat Bob needed to be replaced at 10K, but the front is still good.

Motorcycle tires don't last near as long a car/truck tires. No matter what kind you buy.
