V&H Short Shots Backfiring (anyone ever resolve?)

I am using map:fp-0536 It's for an 09 dyna, shortshots w/ quiet baffles, high flow ac, & stock computer settings. Punch that into the fuelpak website and you'll get all the settings. I get more of a gurgling rumble on decel which sounds about what you get. Occasionally I get a backfire but it's usually when I don't roll completely off the throttle. Hope this helps.

Try to relax and enjoy your bike!!!!!! These Big V twins all backfire once in a while. The backfiring is in the pipes it is unburt fuel and will not harm your bike. If all you plan to do is the pipes and Stage 1 air kit fuelpak is good enough, no need to panic and spend more money on other fuel managment. Some bike just start harder than other bikes some bikes get hotter than other bikes they all have a mind of there own. How does it run?? Try pulling one of the plugs to see how it looks. These bike run a little lean..

While not as prevalent on my bike as I have heard on others, I do have an unresolved backfiring issue with my V&H Short Shots paired with a Fuel Pack on my '09 FXDB. I got the FP because I figured since V&H makes the pipes, their fuel management hardware/software would be most suitable and least problematic. Well, I was wrong. I already tried the V&H recommended setting change (setting #23 from 15 to 16 or visa versa), and that just made it worse, so I went back to the original setting. Anyone with the same motor/pipe/fuel pack combination have a similar issue and find a solution? If so, what was it?
....also, not sure if this is part of the same issue, but has anyone had starting issues with this setup and are they normal? My issue is not that the bike won't start, but just does not seem to start up smoothly. This is most noticeable after restarting a warm bike. Doesn't start right up for 2 or so seconds, then there is a pop as it starts (mini backfire?), and a small amount of black smoke from the tailpipe. Normal? Fuel Pack issue? My first fuel injected bike and also my first V-Twin, so forgive the silly question. My inline carbeurated bike that is 15 years old, starts so much smoother, which seems odd to me though..

It's typically adjusted at your 0% throttle setting(s). The popping combined with your hard start issue leads me to believe you're not getting enough fuel at 0%. If you had a PC etc..it'd be super easy to adjust. Since it sounds like you have to have V&H adjust yours or send you 'maps'(I'm not familiar with their tuner), call 'em up and tell them you need fuel added at 0% throttle. Have 'em add fuel through the whole rev-range(at 0%)
I emailed V&H recently about my poppings on decel and some flat spots. I was told to change modes 1,2 and 5 all to 5. Change mode 23 to 15.
For info, I'm using a V&H Short Shots Staggered, Kuryakyn Hypercharger and Fuelpak.
Hope this is useful for some.

I agree, relax enjoy, not a problem, but many bikes never backfire or decel pop. You can tune pop and backfire out of just about any bike, but you need a more sophisticated system than a fuel pack. Worth $500? Probably not.
