+1 I second all your comments

Want something accurate? Get a Kuryakyn Informer gauge set... can be had on ebay for about $125 or so... when you install this you CALIBRATE It (tank needs to be almost empty when this is done) and it is EXTREMELY ACCURATE. Looks awesome as well!!! It's a WIN-WIN!
Install is a breeze as well...takes about 30 minutes. It's my FAVORITE mod as I look at it and use it constantly
Another cool thing is you can put a tank lift on (BEFORE CALIBRATING THIS) and it is still very accurate.

The fuel guage is fairly accurate on my SB, the low fuel light came on, rode it another 2-3 mi. to a gas station and the tank took 3.8 gal.

BUT, I always rely on the trip odometer and reset it with every fillup...

If I fill up right when my light comes on, I can get about 3 gals in before the pump clicks off. If I pull the nozzle out a little an be careful, I can get another gallon in. BTW my indicator comes on around 130 mi.

My gauges seem accurate but I typically watch the trip odometer and if am doing long rides just start with a full tank. I like to keep the fuel level high to minimize condensation in the tank when it sits up. Never have run out yet.

I sure do miss the Reserve on the carb bikes, the new FI bikes just don't have them. I suppose that is because if the fuel pump runs dry it would burn them up.

My opinion is that everyone should know their bike... First thing I did when I bought my08 SG is to gear up with a 1/2 gallon spare in my bag and ride till the tank ran dry. Everyone says "OH.. That is so bad for the bike....." BS. It happens to EVERY bike at least once, I just chose to get it out of the way so I know its limits. Ridin on the highway at 75-80 on a long trip, light comes on between 130-140 miles.. STOP for fuel BEFORE I see 170..

I use the trip meter, or flip to reserve when it sputters.
