i have been searching every forum i can find just haven't found enough straight or agreed upon answers to feel confident.

I have an 04 FXDLI i just bought that has been dropped so i am looking to get a new tank. I have a line on an 05 FXDI tank. I am pretty sure it will fit, can anyone confirm? does anyone have the part number for the 05 FXDs and 05 FXDLs? Depending on these numbers the below might be irrelevant.

ok, now for why i am confused. here is the part list for fuel tanks for 04:
61586-04 FXDWGs
61590-04 FXDs, FXDXs
61593-04 FXDLs

is the only difference between the FXD and FXDL tanks the fill and guage holes? what is different about the WGs? will it bolt up?

I plan on using all of my stock parts. just want to swap in a new tank.

If you're just asking if the tank will bolt on - then the answer is yes
If you're asking if you can use it with your existing dash, tach, etc, then the answer is a BIG NO.

The three tanks will all fit on every model - problem is the fills and dashes are different. Converting from one to the other is expensive.

 

The dynas have used 3 tanks since 2004…

Tank 1 = ‘04+ FXD, ‘04+ FXDX, ‘04-‘06 FXDC, ‘07 FXDSE
Tank 2 = ‘04+ FXDB, ‘06+ FXDL, ‘08 FXDSE
Tank 3 = ‘04+ FXDWG, ‘06 FXDI35, ‘07+ FXDC, ‘08+ FXDF

Tank 1 = FXD, ’06 (and older) FXDC, ‘07 FXDSE
Tank 2 = FXDB, FXDL, ’08 FXDSE, ‘10 FXDWG
Tank 3 = FXDF, ‘07+ FXDC, ‘08 (and older) FXDWG, ‘06 FXDI35, ’09-‘10 FXDFSE

 

I don't see my bike 04 FXDL listed in your list. should the first list be Tank 2 = '04+ FXDL.

Also, you list the '08FXDSE in both the first and second list.

The table above is a meld of two separate lists I've seen on this Forum in the last year or so. The upper one is the first one I found and I saved it to a WORD document for future reference. It was posted here sometime in 2008, so coverage was from 2004 up to 2008. The second part was posted by BBERCK in another post this last week. I took his 2006-2010 list and married it to the first part I already had. That's why there's some overlap ('08 FXDSE).

I don't know why the '04-'05 FXDL isn't listed in the first list. I'm not "up" on all the models/years enough to notice they were not covered. Can you (or anyone) confirm that they used the same '04-'05 tank as the '06+ ? I'll update this list with any additions/corrections anyone may have. Thanks for the heads up.

from what i have seen during my searches is that the 06 FXDL tank does not fit on 04-05 FXDL. but i don't know for a fact that is true.

 

I wonder if the '04-'05's were carbed only, and went to FI in '06? That might explain if they aren't interchangeable.

 

no, mine is an 04 and it is injected. i think something about the frame changed in 06.
