So I Replaced my COBRA II Headlight Bulb...then after riding that night I noticed that the Glass cracked! My First thought was that maybe I overtightened the metal and or chrome rings although I was careful not to do that...but then I thought that maybe it cracked because the Halogen Bulb I used to replace the original might have created too much heat.
ANY IDEAS as to WHY this happened OR where I can get a glass replacement?
Did you use the glass that came with the Cobra II? I have the same headlight, but used the glass from my stock light. If you want the glass from my Cobra II, you can have it for the cost of shipping.
I fitted a high wattage (100W) bulb to one of my bikes a few years ago and it got so hot that it melted the socket that it fitted into. Never heard of one cracking the glass but I guess it could happen.
I put a PIAA in my Street Bob headlight and rode in the cold rain and it cracked. I never found a conclusive answer if I had tightened it too tight or if it was the heat. I’d say there’s a chance it’s too much heat. I just don’t think I tightened it that much.
A buddies Cobra headlight did the same thing after putting in a new bulb.
On another note mine seems to like bulbs. The bulb that came in it only lasted about 2k miles and the replacement I put in it went out yesterday at about 3k miles.
That's weird. Even after reading about the short life expectancy of the Silverstar Ultras, I put one in anyway. That was last summer and 8-10k miles ago...

A silverstar but a step down from the Ultra was the one that just blew.
I put a Cool Blue in it this time to see if it would last longer.
