TSB or not, pre '06 Wide Glide clunk could be and was fixed by torquing the fork stem nut to 80-100 lb-ft while retaining the original lock tab washer. The hardened washer and TSB didn't exist back then, but the cause of the problem was the same because the steering stem was assembled the same way. Yes, the 41mm forks were different than the 49mm forks in the way they were secured to the top triple tree but the forks themselves were not the cause of the clunk. What's sad is that it took Harley so many years to address the problem.

Again, this does not apply to pre '06 Dynas with the narrow front end...they were completely different.

Sounds like you may be hearing the forks hit the stop at full extension. Maybe a heavier oil would help.

The problem is, that, either fix does not seem to fix the problem on the 06' - 07' bikes? At least mine and several others, but it did on the WGs????

I am thinking the same thing, but I did not want to increase the damping. The real problem is, I have been too lazy to dig in and T/S it. I went on a poker run pre-run and there was a section of road that made the clunk all the way through it. So, I need to go back, ride it through it and see if I can figure it out. Kind of glad I found this section of road because the clunk is somewhat intermittent.
Thanks

I had this or at least a similar issue on a non Harley and fixed it by putting in a 20wt fork oil. Not only did it fix the clunk but handled a whole lot better too.

Singular clunk, or a repeating chatter?

I'm getting a repeating chatter.

Default No top nut to tighten...

I've read through all the threads on all the forums. Problem is, I don't have a stock triple clamp on this 94' Wide Glide.

If anyone knows how to fix the clunk on this I'd think you were the coolest.

You can see from the pictures there's no top nut to adjust/torque. Looking up at the bottom I'm worried I'm missing something as I see threads with nothing in the hole. No idea how to tighten this.

There is no chrome cover. Solid upper triple with the steering tube is all one machined piece. I just don't know what kind of tool to use on what looks like the only way to tighten the bottom bolt/thing. Look at the second photo and you'll see what I mean.

Default wideglide clunk

I don't know if you guys are still haveing problems with the "clunk", it was a problem with my '03. The stem of my tripple trees was smaller than the hole cut into the upper tree. Back in '03 the Co. said to fix it torque to 100 ft. lbs. , well the original spec. was somewhere around 30 lbs. I measured both & took the difference, I think it was about .005 cut a small piece of feeler gauge & slipped it between the upper tree & the stem & reassembled,no clunk. Some guys were putting dresser tripple trees on their Dynas to fix this. I bought a upper tree to play with but didn't get that far it's been running fine since.
