Default Primary has sprung a leak

Looks to be coming from where, i assume, gear shift was prior to forwards being fitted.

Anyone come across this before? And is it likely to be something simple like a seal needing replaced? Trying to decide if its something i could attempt to fix or if i should just bring it to local workshop.

theres a small round gasket between the 2 primary halves called a tower gasket, its common for it to slip out of position because there is no shaft thru the hole now... you can remove your outer primary cover and replace the gasket... i opted on plugging both holes from the inside with 9/16 freeze plugs from NAPA.. havent had a problem in a long time now...

When I replaced my outer primary with a chrome one I left the gasket in place and applied a little high temp rtv silicon to it before installing the outer cover. No problems yet.

Thanks for replies, i wiped oil away and took her out for a spin there to see if anything else would leak and underneath primary cover, at each fixing point, there were drops of oil though nothing had come out via the old gear opening.....so i'm none the wiser really.

Went to remove the primary cover and discovered i'd every size of allen key except the one i need for it

Got it sorted, tower gasket was the culprit. Thanks.

Mine started leaking last sunday on the way back from poags hole hill climb just got the 2 gaskets at the dealer this week one was a buck [tower gasket] the outer was 30. I looked in the hole with a flashlight and i could see the tower gasket had sliped out of place i hope this is not going to happen every 2 years i think ill try a little slicone on the tower gasket when i change it unless anyones got a better ideal
