Re the mileage on the bob: when we first got ours last August, we noticed right away the mileage was waaaaaaay below what I get with my 05 EGlide Classic..........but then after about 6-700 miles, it improved dramatically. As far as the fuel light coming on, we discovered if you pull it off the stand BEFORE you turn the key on, it seems to be fine. Dunno why this is, just remember reading something about it awhile back after we noticed this little curiousity. Give that a try and it should clear that up! Wife rides the bob to the tune of about 45 mpg. We're not hammering, and we hate the big roads. That may have something to do with the mileage too.
Otherwise, I think you need to see the dealer about a possible problem!

Does the fuel contain ethanol? I hear that with ethanol the mpg's goes down a little. ( so we have to buy more, make ceo richer)
First time I fueled up I had 150 on the o. Bob took 3 gallons. = 50mpg. That was when I was doing 50-55 miles per hour.
I always heard that the mileage should get better as it breaks in.
Maybe it has something to do with your set-up, pipes/SE A/C and SERT or whatever you're using.
I wonder if eliminating the sensors has anything to do with it.

Since I changed my pipes A/C and added the FuelPak I haven't been out enough to check what my mileage is.
And now I have a badly sprained wrist plus I'm going away for the weekend, I'll see if I can take Bob out later in the week for a good ride.

Currently the bike is bone stock. I am hoping that it gets better.

You shouldn't be buying a bike for the sole purpose of saving gas, you buy it for the ride! I don't know what my Bob gets to the mile and frankly I don't care. I just put 10 or 12 bucks in the tank and off I go into the sunset. A flask on my leg and not a worry in the world. You can pay 3 bucks for a beer in a bar or you can sit home with a six pack of milwalkee best for the same money. Life is all about the fun ya have.
Well since gas milage is about the only way I can justify the purchase, thats my story and I am sticking to it. This bike would almost be free if I can get it up to 40 mpg if I consider how much I drive and the fact that the truck use a gallon of diesel every 15 miles or so........so I want it to be there.

Not to mention the fact that every time I push the start button I get this huge smile on my face

I have got 300 miles on my new Street Bob and love it with the exception of one thing. I cannot make it get over 31 mpg. Honestly, I bought a bike at this time for the sole purpose of saving gas(my F250 get 15mpg) I thought a bike was the answer and I see you guys posting really high numbers in the high 30s and low 40s. Any ideas whats up with mine?
I don't have a Bob but the most I've gotten is 37 mpg and I have almost 1400 miles on my RK.

Hummm,......... that does seem pretty low to what should be expected in my opinion. I got 38mpg on my first tank of fuel and, my bike was stock except for a set of DynoPower Slipons. I now have 1150 miles on my bike and I have a SE a/c, and the slipons and SERT, and i'm getting 42.5 miles per gallon. I have been told that my gas mileage would continue to increase while I broke my engine in until around 2500 miles or so. Maybe you just need to log in a few more miles.

My FXDI is not stock. 95", 204 cams, air cleaner, SERT, slip ons. Dyno tune shows about a 13:1 AFR. In the first 200 miles, I got about 38-39 mpg. Now I'm at about 900 miles. Commuting to work, riding around town only, I get about 42mpg.

If you're only getting 33, there's a problem. Start by checking your odomoter/speedomter. Motorcycles in general are notoriously inaccurate. I checked mine, and it's spot on. But my 97 was off a bit. Check the tire pressure with a digital gauge.

Take it back to the shop and have the AFR checked. Sounds like you may be running rich. Could be a problem with the main map, head temp sensor, air temp sensor, etc. Poor fuel mileage is often a symtom of something not working correctly.
