Default cheap ways to fit a wider tire on my '93 FXDWG

I have a '93 FXDWG and I would really like to get a wider tire in there. I canīt spend all the $$$ that a wide tire kit cost and I don't want anything that wide either. So what would be a cheaper way to get a wider tyre in there? The fender is not an issue since I'm changin that, so forget about that part of the problem. Anyone knows a way to do it?

How wide do you have now? How wide do you want to go?

I run the stock 130 tire, I would like to go to a 150 with that I need a smaller belt I know... but if I could get a 160-180 it would be my dream.

I have a 1990 bike and would guess you have a similar rear tyre and wide belt. I now have a 140/MT wide tyre in place of the original 130/MT. To get it in I had to remove the rubber skirt on the inside of the belt guard. There is about 3/16 clearance between tyre and belt.

I believe you can go a little wider by using a later narrow belt. That may require a new gearbox pulley, to make the belt run properly and give more clearance with the tyre. That should let you fit a 150, possibly 160 wide. Beyond that I believe you are into more serious costs!
