I know what you mean about spooky and the deer. Thanks for all the replies! I haven't had time to look at it yet (still sitting at his sisters house) but now I have some things to look for. We have our annual Bike Time festival this weekend so it probably won't get looked at until Sunday at the soonest. Whether we tear into ourselves or take it to an indy I'll be sure to let you know the outcome.

I understand the deer but no need to worry about the running gear. Plenty of high milage bikes that got there without issue. These types of failures aren't that common.

Hi all, here is one for you... Yesterday my buddy left his sister's house on his 99 Wide Glide and reached about 60 mph when the motor quit and his rear tire locked up. He kept it upright until it left the road and ended up dumping it in the grass. Fortunatly he walked away with only a bruised rib and some cosmetic damage to the bike (he'll need a new tire also) but now the mystery as to why. He said the oil level was good and it was running normaly before hand. Currently the transmission seems to shift fine and the bike moves freely in neutral and when the clutch is pulled in but the motor seems to be locked up and all the starter does is click. We need to get it into my garage so we can get the primary cover off. We would like to determine what caused it to lock up before deciding to take it to the dealer. Any ideas?
