Default Check Enigne light comes and goes

My 08 dyna when I turn the kill switch on the check engine lights and I wait 10 seconds then it goes out and I hit the start button which is normal. Then after the engine starts the check engine light comes on for about 10 seconds and goes out which is not normal. Does anyone have any idea what this could be the bike seems to run ok but It does make me a bit uneasy.

Thanks >>>> Inthered

next time you're at your harley shop mention it to the service manager, and see, but it's probably as simple as a connector that just isn't making full contact. if it's under warranty that 's better yet.

Is it throwing codes. Mine did the same thing while on a three day ride. Had two plastic female plugs replaced when I got home.

Historic code. Hold the odometer reset button and turn the ignition on. Will enter diagnostic mode. Use the odometer button to work your way through the powertrain, TSSM, Speedo etc until you get a code. Usually 1 letter then 4 numbers (ie: P1006). Grab an ED manual and look it up in the index. Should tell you what the code is.

Thanks for the information I will check the codes tonite when I get home.
Does HD have a lot of connector problems ? The connectors look like high quality pieces but I do hear a lot about intermittant connections.

You may have gotten some moisture in a plug, it caused some corrosion on the pins or sockets raising the resistance across that connection popping a code. Dielectric grease will prevent some of this.

Can you post your results on what you find? Mine started to do the exact same thing Monday and the signial light indicators flash too but then they all shut off after about 5 seconds.

Well I checked and cleared all of my codes and now I need to take a ride on the bike to see if any of them return. My new Cycle Visions taillight failed and caused the B1125 & B1126 codes which were for shorted turn signals. I entered the wrong password to bypass the alarm last week and that threw the P1009 code. I have Xieds and those caused the p0131 & p0151 codes for lean F&R O2 sensors to be set which is normal. So I guess my dyna is ok since the codes all have valid reasons for being there.

I have attached a .pdf file with the codes in it that I found in another thread just so you do not have to search for it

Thanks >>> Inthered
