"Decel Popping and SERT Tuning"
Hello everyone,
My 06' WG tends to pop ALOT when decelerating from 2200 RPM to about 1700 RPM.
I bought the bike with Rinehart Flushcuts already installed and it also came with the SERT in one of the saddlebags (the bike VIN was written on the box so I assume it was sold with the bike) Not sure about the AC setup as I haven't removed the cover to see what filter lies underneath. So anyhow....
My question is directed toward anyone with experience tuning....
Does the popping in that particular RPM range throw any flags or indicate any particular problem, or do you know what I may want to look at within my tune to alleviate this popping?
Any help is much appreciatated!

Sounds as though you are running lean, but I have no clue about sert! however they (fuel moto ) are having me add fuel in the zero throttle position from 1750 all the way to redline if that helps. starting with 15 then adding if it doesn't help. They also suggested tring in the ignition table in 0 throttle advance the timing from 2 to 3 degrees.

So let me get this straight....
One vote for too much fuel and another for running too lean. I see some confusion comin' my way.
Maddghost, who is fuel moto? What are you using to change you tuning?
Thedonthere.... sounds like you had one shop running you too rich and now you had it on the dyno and they leaned it out for you? Did you have the popping issue before you went on the dyno? I'm tempted to put mine on too but since I have the SERT I heard that it couldn't be done. Wouldn't that mean I'd have to buy a Power Commander to have it dyno'd?
Sorry for all the questions fella's... just trying to get up to speed on all this crap.

I appreciate your input guys. I'll have to research and then play around with this SERT and see how it works. The manual is extremely detailed and there are many canned "tunings" available, but I'm not sure how this all works yet. If anyone has a link to a good thread on this topic I would be grateful.

From what I was always told about decel popping is it's running too rich. The popping sound is actually unused fuel igniting in the pipes. Sometimes at night you will actually see flames come out of the pipes. A exhaust leak can also cause the popping sound. Also some pipes just can't be tuned enough to totally eliminate it either.

Well thedonthere mentioned Jamie and he is the lead guy at fuelmoto that I'm talking about. My bike has a pcV and i use a computer to tweak the fuel map and fuelmoto insists I just have to add fuel to the 0 throttle position. I'm adding fuel in 5% increments and at 30% extra fuel the popping is almost stopped. When I got home tonite I added another 8%,so I'm at 38% in the 0 throttle position. How can i get an actual map for my specific needs ,who knows I guess a dino, but FM says It's not necessary since I only have stage 1 mods. All i can really do for you is suggest you read the sert instructions,or bring it to a specialist.

Wow! you had to add 38 maddghost? I added 20 or 25 I don't remember but I think it was 20. How bad is your gas mileage in town with having to add 38? I know we don't ride our bikes for the gas mileage but damn that's gotta be cutting it down pretty good. I get about 35mpg or maybe a little less in town.

Well, I think I may be able to tweak that 0 throttle position through the software. Seems reasonable to me to at least take a look at it.... although like I mentioned earlier... it's only been during decel at between 2200 and 1700 RPM. Outside of that range it just kinda hums along like it should and it never does its popping thing during acceleration.
Thanks!
Thanks!
