I recently learned that the Dyna oil capacity is 3 quarts, and all the Touring models take 4 quarts. I always thought that the 96 ci twin cam in my Superglide was the same motor used in the Touring bikes, but I guess that is not the case. I have to wonder, is a Dyna more likely to overheat than a bike with the extra quart of oil? Will my engine last as long, everything else being equal? Any other differences in the motors?
They either compress 4 qts of oil into 3-1 qt containers before they pour it into the touring models OR they reduce it's mass by 25%. You can do a search to find out which one MoCo uses.
The TC96 may say 3 qts. in the manual, but if you add that, it will be overfilled! Oil change with filter is really 2 1/2 qts. I know of no one who gets the extra 1/2 qt. out.
HotBike from a few months back had an article about adding an even bigger pan to a bagger so an additional quart could be added.
Not sure if there were details on what the temp change was -I'll see if I can find it.
