Like we always say, look in the owners manual, more volume in the touring bikes keeps them cooler. I always use a little siphon pump to get the extra 1/2 qt stuck in the bike out. You get a better oil change that way. Someone sells a little better one that fits right onto the bike. Mine is an old kerosene siphon that I added a long tube to. By the way an oil cooler when you are stuck in traffic helps a little but not much, unless you put a thermostatic fan on it.
I recently learned that the Dyna oil capacity is 3 quarts, and all the Touring models take 4 quarts. I always thought that the 96 ci twin cam in my Superglide was the same motor used in the Touring bikes, but I guess that is not the case. I have to wonder, is a Dyna more likely to overheat than a bike with the extra quart of oil? Will my engine last as long, everything else being equal? Any other differences in the motors?

The manual I paid 14 grandish for(they threw in an 07 Street Bob when I bought the manual) says on page 18 the capacity with filter is 3.0 qts....page 81 states 2.5 qts for "capacity refill",whatever the hell that means.....all I know is,last time I put 3 qts in mine oil got into the intake and caused the bike to not idle...its 2.5 qts for me....
