Adding a Combo Tach
Here in Texas, you have to notify the state and the buyer with a sworn affidavit that the Speedometer has been changed, even if it reflects the correct mileage, I believe. That might be why is suggested dealer perform the service. The HD catalog lists the Combo Speedo/Tach on pages 190-191 for Dyna's, list is $499.00, then install.

There was a thread about a month ago with detailed instruction. The hardest part, if I recall correctly, is running the tach wire to the ECU, crimping a pin on the wire, and putting the pin in the ECU connector... same as about every other virgin tach install.
You will lose a couple functions, like the clock I think, when you go combo.

I have a FXDCI similar to yours. I went a different route for a tach. The combo unit is expensive, requires dealer mileage set, but is easy to install. A separate tach costs around half as much, does not require the mileage setting, and is easier to read. See the pic (if I attached it correctly) It's more work to install.
