The ugly stripe on the StBob battery cover...

I agree about that tinny looking battery box deco item. I had thought about painting it or just leaving it off and putting bolts in the holes, but then on good ol' Ebay there was a chrome dyna script one and I got it for 15 buck plus about 7 to ship it. It looks great and the one I got had some small scratches, but I was able to polish them out. So it says Harley Davidson, it is a Harley after all. I think it looks better than the stock one.

I sanded the whole band with real fine grit to get most of the shellac off, or what ever it is. Then i took a rougher grit to the ridges to give them the same grain as the fin covers. then taped of the ridges with 1/8" pin stripping tape, painted it, pulled the tape off and there you go. Cost less then ten bucks to do the whole thing, and i think it turn out matching up good with fin covers i have and the jugs.

That looks great. I sanded primed and painted mine with the hammered black gloss. I have a number of parts on my bike painted like that or it might look stupid. I like the contrasts of different types of black - vivid, wrinkle, hammered etc.
